**This is a 6-week course. Your registration fee includes 1 class per week for 6 weeks**

[Fall Quarter / Term I] 9/9/19 – 10/20/19
[Wednesdays] 6:30PM – 8:30PM

This is not your grandmother’s embroidery class. Along with learning the basics of stitching, we will highlight fascinating examples of how women throughout history have used needle craft as a form of rebellion and protest. From Victorian era secret languages to undercover Chilean resistance movements… women and their stitches have had surprising influence. After this class is over, students will leave with a completed embroidery project of which they can be proud. Although the history topics would be of interest to anyone, the hands-on portion of this class is very much designed for students with no prior knowledge of embroidery. Absolute beginners welcome and encouraged.

Materials Fee: $15 payable via cash or check on the first day of class

Description

Teacher Bio: Em Weissman

Emily Weissman first learned to cross stitch at age four, when her British grandmother helped her complete a pattern of a very ugly chicken. Since then, she’s honed her needlepoint skills considerably, and you can see her latest work on Instagram at @em.broidery. Emily believes strongly in using art and hobbies to create authentic community, and in putting a contemporary spin on traditionally “feminine arts.”
